About the Role

The Registered Nurse provides highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients, delivering both direct and indirect care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). You will oversee other team members and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide population-specific care in accordance with BORN regulations and professional standards.

Specialty areas include Adult GI, ARTC, Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Center, Device Clinic, ED, ICU, L&D/AETU, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Med/Surg, Mother/Baby, OR, PACU/Henderson, Pediatrics, Pedi GI, Psychiatry, SCN, STAT RN, and Primary Care Triage RN. Specific requirements for each specialty are outlined below.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process and evidence-based practice to ensure quality patient care throughout the episode of care.
• Assess patients’ physical, psychological, spiritual, cultural, and social needs, providing competent and compassionate care tailored to individual requirements.
• Individualize care considering age, developmental or physical abilities, spiritual/religious practices, economic status, literacy, communication skills, cognitive abilities, and gender or sexual orientation.
• Update knowledge and skills related to the populations served to meet patient care needs.
• Apply knowledge of illness, injury, and disease in the assessment process, recognizing symptoms requiring immediate intervention.
• Develop and update individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Implement clinical and technical aspects of care and physicians’ orders in compliance with standards of practice.
• Evaluate patient responses to interventions and revise plans of care accordingly.
• Set priorities when planning and implementing patient care.
• Coordinate with resources and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate comprehensive discharge planning.
• Recognize changes in patient status and inform appropriate healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with Case Managers to address discharge needs and barriers.
• Create and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, and coworkers.
• Use two patient identifiers to ensure correct care, treatment, or services.
• Adhere to infection control principles, OSHA standards, hazardous material guidelines, and isolation procedures.
• Safeguard patient and personnel privacy by protecting confidential information.
• Provide patient comfort and hygiene, and demonstrate proper use of equipment and supplies.
• Assess the need for restraints and use alternative measures when appropriate.
• Respond appropriately to emergency situations and minimize injury risks (e.g., fall precautions).
• Treat patients and families with respect and advocate for patient rights and responsibilities.
• Provide emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and families.
• Participate in performance improvement activities and incorporate recommendations into practice.
• Control patient care costs through efficient management of supplies and services.
• Ensure complete, accurate, and timely documentation of patient information.
• Administer medications and IVs safely and accurately, adhering to the “5 rights” and scanning protocols where applicable.
• Demonstrate knowledge of drug actions and interventions for adverse reactions.
• Assess and verify correct drug, dose, and pump settings for patients with continuous infusions, PCA, or epidurals.
• Report and address medication variances and problems appropriately.

Specialty-Specific Requirements

• Adult GI: 2 years Critical Care/GI experience required. ACLS required within the first year of employment; CCGRN certification preferred.
• Assisted Reproductive Technologies Clinic (ARTC): BSN required upon employment. Completion of the ASRM RN certificate course within the first year of employment. Minimum 1 year of experience in reproductive endocrinology practice required.
• Cancer Center: Minimum 1 year of experience administering chemotherapy (single agent and multi-drug regimens) in an outpatient setting. Thorough assessment skills and knowledge of Hematology/Oncology disease pathophysiology required. Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) or obtained within the first year of hire. Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification Card required. 3 years of ambulatory oncology nursing experience strongly preferred.
• Cardiovascular Center: 2 years Critical Care experience required. Cardiac ICU, CCU, or Cardiac Surgery experience preferred. Previous interventional radiology and/or electrophysiology experience required. BLS/ACLS certification required upon employment.
• Device Clinic: 2 years of device clinic experience with pacemaker programming and clinic follow-up required. BCLS and ACLS certifications required; HRS/NASP certification preferred.
• ED: 2 years ED experience required. ACLS, PALS, and CPI certifications required within the first year of employment. CEN or CCRN preferred.
• ICU: 2 years Critical Care experience required. ACLS required within the first year of employment.
• Labor & Delivery/AETU: 2 years L&D experience required. NRP required within the first year of employment. Fetal Monitoring experience preferred.
• Maternal Fetal Medicine: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in perinatal services required. Minimum 1 year in reproductive endocrinology practice required. BSN in Nursing required. BLS required prior to hire; ACLS preferred.
• Med/Surg: 1 year Med/Surg experience required. Telemetry experience preferred; telemetry training required within the first year of employment.
• Mother/Baby: 2 years Mother/Baby experience required. NRP required within the first year of employment. Fetal Monitoring experience preferred.
• OR: 2 years OR experience required. Completion of a Peri-operative Nursing Program preferred; AORN certification preferred.
• PACU/Henderson: 2 years Critical Care/PACU experience required. ACLS and PALS required within the first year of employment. CPAN/CAPA certification preferred.
• Pediatrics: 2 years Pediatrics experience required. NRP required within the first year of employment if cross-trained for mother/baby.
• Pedi GI: 2 years Pedi GI experience required. PALS required within the first year of employment.
• Psychiatry: 2 years Psychiatry experience required. CPI required within the first month of employment.
• SCN: 2 years SCN experience required. NRP required within the first year of employment.
• STAT RN: 2 years Critical Care/Emergency nursing experience required. ACLS, PALS, and CPI required within the first year of employment.
• Primary Care Triage RN: 2 years Triage, ER, Urgent Care, or Outpatient experience required. Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (ANCC RN-BC) preferred.
