Responsibilities
- Supervise all clinical staff and personnel from other departments during specified shifts.
- Assist the Director of Nursing in directing and supervising Nursing Services related to resident care.
- Serve as staffing coordinator for your shift.
- Evaluate and direct nursing care for residents, ensuring constant availability to nurses in charge of various units and awareness of resident condition changes.
- Integrate the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and Nursing Department into the management of nursing on all units.
- Assume responsibility for staffing Nursing Services on the 3-11 and 11-7 shifts.
- Determine quality of nursing care by observing residents, reviewing charts, care plans, and communicating with staff and physicians.
- Assist the Charge Nurse in assessing needs, identifying nursing diagnoses based on histories, and addressing nursing problems and solutions.
- Participate in nursing care committees as recommended by the Director of Nursing.
- Assist with writing periodic evaluations and discussing individual goals with supervisors and charge nurses.
- Work closely with the In-Service Director to provide programs suitable for geriatric care.
- Report problems within Nursing to the Director of Nursing with suggested solutions.
- Ensure continuity of care for all residents across three shifts and report to the Director of Nursing.
- Maintain standards of care for each resident in the Nursing Home.
- Correlate nursing plans with medical plans by reviewing written plans and checking orders.
- Interpret care to residents, families, nursing staff, and other nursing home personnel.
- Participate in resident teaching programs and in writing guidelines for care plans, policies, and procedures.
- Discuss administrative and nursing care problems with other Nursing Home Supervisors and the Director of Nursing.
- Stay informed of new medical and nursing measures related to resident needs.
- Maintain an environment conducive to providing quality care.
- Make rounds to observe the effectiveness of care and institute immediate changes as necessary.
- Cooperate with attending physicians during their visits.
- Provide care to residents requiring nursing judgment and skill.
- Demonstrate new nursing techniques.
- Maintain a system for communication of nursing care information.
- Participate in nursing care committees and maintain adequate records.
- Report nursing care information to other Nursing Home Supervisors and the Director of Nursing.
- Use the Nursing Care Plan as a guide for reports, rounds, and conferences.
- Share information with other professional disciplines, facility departments, and community agencies.
- Suggest areas for study and participate in nursing research.
- Assume responsibility for teaching related to planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.
- Assist with staffing other shifts as needed due to call-ins.
- Assign personnel to the nursing team based on resident needs and worker competence.
- Identify problems in nursing care and assist the team in personnel assignment.
- Report staffing needs to the Director of Nursing.
- Participate in orienting programs and in-service programs.
- Supervise and counsel personnel assigned to your shift.
- Create and maintain a working climate conducive to producing quality care.

- Guide working relationships within the unit with residents, families, visitors, nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital departments, and community representatives.
- Support personnel policies and recommend changes to the Director of Nursing.
- Keep personnel informed of changes and maintain an effective communication system.
- Interpret new, current, and standing policies posted on bulletin boards on units.
- Review critical incidents and discuss them with the Director of Nursing and other Supervisors, then interpret to staff.
- Write periodic evaluations and discuss strengths and weaknesses with personnel.
- Report personnel problems to the Director of Nursing.
- Complete incident reports, review reports, and co-sign for all staff members.
- Stay abreast of new developments in management and suggest changes to the Director of Nursing.
- Attend all required in-services and follow department and facility policies and procedures, including the use of protective equipment.
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care and employee information, adhering to HIPAA and HIV regulations.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and currently licensed by the State of New York.
- All RNs hired who do not currently hold a BSN will be expected to enroll in a bachelor’s prepared nursing program within 4 years of hire. BSN must be completed within 10 years. RNs licensed on or before 12/19/17 are exempt from this requirement.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a staff RN (preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a nursing supervisor (preferred).
- Current NYS License as a Registered Nurse (required).
- BLS Certification (required).

Pay
Salary is based on qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
Pay Range: USD $45.76/Hr.
