13-week travel assignment in Asheville, NC at Mission Hospital – Main Campus (509 Biltmore Avenue).
About the Unit
- Unit: D2 – Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit (Step-Down/PCU)
- 40 beds; nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 (Step-Down), 1:6 (MedSurg), or 1:5 if combined day/night
- Goal is a free charge nurse; typically 1–2 CNAs per shift based on volume
- Equipment: Baxter IV pumps
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Scrub colors: Navy blue, white, or combination of both
Schedule
- Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Every other weekend required; no call; assist with holidays
- Floating expected to other units within skill set
Responsibilities
- Receive admitted patients directly from the ED
- Complete admission assessment, medication reconciliation, and initiate acute-care orders
- Reduce overall length of stay and enhance patient/family experience
- Care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses in a fast-paced, quick-turnover environment
- Serve as charge nurse when needed
- Minimal bedside procedures due to unit environment
- Opportunities to work in CMU Telemetry (centralized telemetry oversight) or as an ED Transport Nurse (24/7 staffing to move higher-acuity patients)
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
- Minimum 2 years recent MedSurg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) experience
- Positive attitude and strong teamwork focus
- Charge nurse experience or willingness to take on charge responsibilities
- Dress code: navy blue/white scrubs or combination; no t-shirts; navy or white jacket/sweater permitted
