Registered Nurse - Patient Safety Manager

About the role

The Hines VA Patient Safety Manager (PSM) works as part of the Patient Safety Team on the daily management of the Patient Safety Program and implementation of National Patient Safety Goals.

Responsibilities

• Review all patient safety and environment of care standards
• Assure proper guidance is provided throughout the hospital
• Assist in the development of processes to ensure that all required patient safety information is acted upon
• Attend New Employee Orientation (NEO) and educate new staff on the Patient Safety Program including the National Patient Safety Goals
• Organize, educate participatory staff, and implement Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on identified issues based on event reporting or as the PSM becomes aware of patient safety concerns
• Ensure managers, chief nurses, and other supervisory staff have processes in place that are consistent with the National Patient Safety Goals
• Advise in developing approaches for standardizing system related procedures to minimize variation
• Facilitate in the coordination and development of data collection and analysis techniques
• Provide clinical expertise and consultation to advise in data-driven decision making and performance improvement matters
• Participate in the development of innovative approaches to the establishment, enhancement, modification, and/or improvements in a variety of programs related to patient safety

Requirements

• Basic Requirements: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
• English Language Proficiency: No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English
• Current - full - active - and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. - Puerto Rico) of the United States - or the District of Columbia
• Master's degree in nursing (MSN) and 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3
• Doctoral degree in Nursing with and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III

Qualifications

• Specialized Nursing Experience: 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3
• Master's degree in nursing (MSN) and 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3
• Doctoral degree in Nursing with and one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III

• Monday - Friday 8 hour tour between 7am and 5:30pm (TBD after orientation)
