An Outpatient Nursing Services (ONS) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation with consideration of the aging process, human development stages, and cultural diversity. Assists in the care and preparation and provides pre-op and post-op care for ONS surgical patients. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes an environment aligned with the hospital’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Delivers nursing care according to the standards of care defined within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  • Promotes a therapeutic relationship with patients and families.
  • Collects and documents pertinent health data using appropriate assessment techniques in a systematic and ongoing process for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Analyzes and documents diagnoses/patient problems to facilitate determination of expected outcomes and plan of care in collaboration with the patient, care person, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Makes clinical decisions and sets priorities related to workload management based on clinical knowledge and individual patient needs.
  • Utilizes ongoing assessment data and notifies physician/surgeon of changes in patient’s condition in a timely manner.
  • Provides appropriate pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and care persons.
  • Performs pre-op preparation including medication and IV administration per provider’s orders.
  • Assists patients with ambulation and ensures discharge criteria are met prior to discharge.
  • Completes follow-up telephone calls and documents appropriately.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician-related information.
  • Maintains orderly condition of assigned work area.
  • Is knowledgeable of general hospital and department-specific policies and procedures.
  • Displays knowledge of sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and practices Universal Precautions.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in provision of nursing care, including administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other healthcare providers, and providing education to patients and/or care persons.
  • Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of work and storage areas.

  • Exhibits good mental health, emotional maturity, and good personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Acquires and maintains current knowledge in nursing practice.
  • Recognizes and respects individual emotional, social, and cultural needs of patients, including their religious beliefs.
  • Always preserves the dignity and respect of all patients.
  • Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Follows all lawful safety, health requirements, and protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
  • Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury or illness, near misses, etc.
  • Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • 1 year of hospital surgical experience is helpful.
  • Ability to pass specific competencies for this position.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Hold and maintain RN Illinois Licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Pay

$33.67 - $42.08 per hour
