Registered Nurse - Operating Room - Per Diem - Days

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care.
• Assessment:
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Perform age and disease-specific assessments independently and systematically, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identify patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Planning:
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulate age and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develop and coordinate a patient/family-focused plan of care, prioritized and encompassing the continuum of care.
• Implementation:
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing communication with the patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other healthcare team members regarding the patient's status, care, and treatment plans.
  • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding.
  • Perform according to established protocols in clinical situations, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Provide nursing care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Perform continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administer medication utilizing bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharge of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation:
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
• Identify ethical issues in the practice setting and bring them to the attention of other team members.
• Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
• Maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
• Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
• Perform physical requirements: lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
• Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required:
  • A minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing degree.
  • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by the date of hire.
  • BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs.
  • Strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and their caregivers.

  • Passion for delivering the highest quality of care based on a strong sense of patient focus.
• Preferred:
  • National Certification in area of specialty when eligible.

Pay

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good-faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting. The starting rate of pay is $46.25 per hour. Posted rates may vary based on non-discriminatory factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions may be eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions. Certain roles may also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits.
