Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, ensuring understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Demonstrate ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
- Perform an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs.
- Incorporate data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
- Prioritize data collection according to patient's immediate needs.
- Use assessment findings in discharge planning.
- Develop/review/revise and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes.
- Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.
- Provide teaching specific to the patient's health care problem.
- Care plan reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge/transfer.
- Implement interventions that are consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Able to competently perform technical skills independently.
- Maintain a professional behavior in attitude, demeanor, interactions to achieve organization's mission.
- Initiate action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees.
- Complete appropriate report form for any risk (e.g., variance/incident report, patient concern report, maintenance request).
- Communicate to appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues.
- Work within the scope of practice as defined by State Nurse Practice Act.
- Review, delegate and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice in accordance with the provision of the state's Nurse Practice Act and the Professional Standards of Practice.
- Right task (within the scope of practice, according to the job description, based on the desired outcome, task routine, non-complex, low risk and predictable outcome).
- Right person (assess competency by: certification/licensure, job description, skills checklist, demonstrated skill).
- Right communication (clear, concise, correct, complete).
- Right feedback: the Reciprocal Process (ask teammates' input first, recognize effort, get teammates' solution to problem, check off points).
- Fiscally accountable.

- Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy.
Requirements
- Education: BSN or MSN from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an ADN. ASN or BSN preferred for NMH Surgery Main. Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required for NMH Medical Observation & Ortho Neuro. Proof of training required for NIH Stroke Scale training in the first 6 months of hire.
- Experience: 3 to 5 years hospital or office experience with emphasis in oncology or med/surg nursing for MJE Radiation Oncology. Minimum 2 years related experience in RN role for NMH Palliative Care. 3 to 6 months on-the-job training for NMH IV Team. 2 years of OR experience for weekend positions for NMH Surgery Main. 2 to 5 years previous inpatient nursing experience and previous surgical experience for MFH Surgery Main. Previous surgical experience for MJE Surgery Main. 1 year hospital experience for MJE Behavioral Health Psych IP. Venipuncture experience for NMH IV Team.
- Licenses/Certifications: Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure. American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. Certification(s) in area of specialty from National Certification Corporation (NCC) within 1 year of eligibility for NMH & MWH & MFH Surgery Main: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR). NMH & MWH & MJE: American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS). Rehabilitation: Certified Rehabilitation RN (CRRN) and Gerontological Nursing Certification (GERO.BC). NMH Oncology: ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
