About the Role
Part-time position with a schedule of 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including rotating weekends. This role is located in the 3 South (3S) Observation Unit, a 16-bed fast-paced environment for patients under observation status with a wide variety of diagnoses and illnesses. Nurses in this unit must assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with multiple disciplines, conduct rapid evaluations to determine safe discharge or potential transfer to an inpatient unit, and adhere to Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, and develop and implement an individualized care plan.
- Coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff.
- Create a documented plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to care and service delivery.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and adjust the plan of care accordingly.
- Utilize best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) accepted with a commitment to obtain a BSN within three years of employment.
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong analytic abilities.
- Experience in an Observation Unit preferred.
- Additional certifications preferred for related roles:
- Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
- Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
- Certified Pediatric Nurse
- Certified Emergency Nurse
