Registered Nurse - Ob/Gyn - Kelsey-Seybold Clinic: Missouri City
About the Role

As a multi-specialty clinic, we offer care from more than 900 medical providers in 65 medical specialties. The registered nurse provides nursing care to patients in an assigned clinical area and leadership on the unit, under the supervision of a Nurse Supervisor or RN Coordinator.
The RN applies clinical nursing knowledge and utilizes demonstrated skills to ensure the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, organizational, and professional standards. The RN utilizes critical thinking to identify priorities and make judgments concerning basic and comprehensive needs of multiple patients to facilitate appropriate and timely care.
Responsibilities
- Clerical:
- Review doctor's schedule, abstract as needed, print PVS for each patient, and request other relevant information needed for the patient's visit that day.
- Prepare and submit patient documents for scanning.
- Monitor assigned inbox and complete work as needed (overdue results/letters).
- Schedule appointments and assist patients with specialty referrals and radiology testing.
- Provide AVS and/or pre-printed patient educational material as directed by the provider.
- Proper disposal of confidential patient information daily.
- Follow HIPAA policy and procedures regarding patient confidentiality.
- Develop patient teaching plans and identify basic health-related learning needs of patients.
- Prepare and submit UR and other referrals as directed by the physician.
- Refill prescriptions as directed by the physician.
- Patient Care:
- Utilize the nursing process and act as an advocate to promote quality patient care.
- Critically analyze and integrate subjective and objective data regarding concerns and conditions.
- Medication administration using the 7 rights, document, monitor, and report response.
- Monitor inbox for orders placed by the physician and perform tasks that need to be completed; report and accurately document patient response.
- Manage workload in assigned department and inbox (result notes, Rx requests, Rx response, orders, patient calls, overdue results, canceled orders, expiring orders, and patient advice requests).
- Telephone management: collect pertinent patient information, document in the medical record, and report to the physician for direction of care or provide care advice as appropriate.
- Perform CPR as needed and actively participate in emergency response (code blue and code orange teams).
- Document observations related to health status and report findings.
- Transport patients within the facility as needed depending on acuity.
- Room patients, perform testing, and assist the physician as patient acuity warrants.
- Departmental Maintenance:
- Monitor supplies, medications, and forms; notify appropriate staff when reorder is needed.
- Remove and tag broken equipment and notify coordinator, supervisor, or manager.
- Clean assigned exam rooms daily and document on log.
- Monitor supplies for expiration date and restock to par levels.
- Perform sterilization of instruments and complete logs (assignment based on completion of sterilization class and delegation by appropriate nursing staff).
- Attend staff meetings and maintain a clean and organized work area with a minimum of personal items.
- QA-Regulatory:
- Use frequent hand washing or hand sanitizer to prevent and control the spread of disease within the clinical setting.
- Complete daily logs as assigned by nursing supervisor or coordinator (e.g., waived testing, CLIA standards, refrigerator and room temperature logs, eye wash station, sterilizer log, crash cart log, narcotic log, and other QA logs).
- Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Practice OSHA safety standards with proper disposal of biohazard waste.
- Use gloves and PPE as needed and aseptic or sterile technique as required.
- Verify equipment has a current PM label before use.
- Identify and report potential barriers for the safe provision of patient care and maintain a safe patient environment.

- Telephone Etiquette:
- Answer and direct incoming calls to appropriate staff using a caring, non-rushed tone.
- Identify clinic, department, name, and job title in the healthcare team.
- Ensure accurate information is obtained and communicated to the physician in writing via the medical record.
- Financial:
- Demonstrate prudent use of resources and minimize wasteful actions.
- Assist with maintaining equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations.
- Report the need for overtime and obtain approval from coordinator, supervisor, manager, or clinic administrator.
- Quality Improvement:
- Initiate, contribute, and participate in department and clinic process improvement plans (PDSA).
- Provide department leadership and support for initiatives related to meeting AAAHC and other accrediting standards.
- Follow all safety standards for patients, employees, and visitors.

Requirements
- Graduate from an approved professional registered nursing program.
- Current and valid Texas RN license.
- Current BLS through American Heart Association.
- 6+ months in a clinical area (1 year KSC experience may be considered in lieu of 6 months RN experience with approval from Sr Dir Nursing Services).
- Computer experience.
- Proven ability to use equipment and related supplies for the selected patient population for the assigned clinical area, including CPR, oxygen administration, and intravenous therapy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing.
- Specialty nursing certification in ambulatory care or one appropriate to the specialty area assigned.
- ACLS and/or PALS.
- 2+ years of ambulatory care.
- EPIC experience.
- Proven Windows-based computer skills.
Pay
The hourly pay for this role will range from $29.00 to $52.00 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
