Responsibilities

• Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following hospital and nursing standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations
• Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies
• Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
• Responsible for care of patients in the Postpartum period following delivery to discharge as well as basic medical surgical and gynecological surgery patients
• Performs and documents patient assessments and reassessments following Nursing and Departmental P/P, using appropriate techniques for data collection and analysis, at regular and indicated intervals
• Provides IV therapy management and performs venipuncture as needed for lab draws per physician orders
• Applies special precautions supervising care provided to sedated, PCA, or fall risk patients to minimize potential safety

Qualifications

• Associate's degree required; BSN preferred. BSN will be required within 3 years of employment
• Professional Nursing Organization membership encouraged
• Minimum of one year's experience is preferred
• Ability to care for newborns is also preferred
• Texas State RN license or compact license is accepted; Texas State RN license required 30 days after hire
• Current BLS required
• NRP required within first 90 days
• Specialty Certification encouraged
