About the role
The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Responsibilities
- Works with inpatient and outpatient staff in an educator capacity
- Trains nursing staff on principles and theory of nursing
- Facilitates the development of unit preceptors and coordinates unit-based clinical orientation programs
- Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in the Emergency Department
- Develops and implements training/education programs based on performance metrics data
- Maintains and verifies staff competency and monitors clinical skills completion
- Assists in the creation of annual competency criteria and competency verification documentation
- Facilitates the development of in-service, orientation, and preceptorship programs
- Ensures a culture of reliability, collaboration, and error prevention
Requirements
- Basic English language proficiency
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
- Master's degree in a related field with a BSN
- Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with a BSN
Qualifications
- Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing
- 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 1
- 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I - Level 2
- 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I - Level 3
- 2 years of specialized nursing experience - one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III
- 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III
- Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related field with a BSN
