Responsibilities

The Emergency Department nurse provides professional nursing care during the initial phase of acute illness or trauma for patients of all ages. Key duties include:

• Triage and determine priority of care based on physical, psychological, and social needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the emergency care system
• Assess the needs of each patient quickly and prioritize care based on critical nature
• Work to stabilize the patient and initiate treatment
• Discharge the patient after the emergency is over or make arrangements for a longer hospital stay

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN-approved program (Required)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
• Previous nursing experience (Preferred)

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of Missouri (Required)
• BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire (Required)
• ACLS must be obtained within one year of hire (Required)
• PALS must be obtained within one year of hire (Required)
• ENPC must be obtained within 12 months of hire (Required for Primary RN in emergent pediatric care; RN will not be Primary RN if certification lapses)
• TNCC must be obtained within 12 months of hire (Required for Primary RN in trauma care; RN will not be Primary RN if certification lapses)

Pay

• $1.00 certification pay
• $1.00 BSN pay
