Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse is responsible for professional nursing care and related assistance to patients of any age group admitted to the area employed. The Registered Nurse provides direction to Licensed Vocational Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care and supports the medical care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff.

  • Knows and conforms to the Nurse Practice Act for the State of Texas.
  • Utilizes a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed, nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing assessments, making nursing diagnoses, developing a plan of care, implementing nursing care, and evaluating the patient's responses to nursing interventions.
  • Delegates tasks to unlicensed personnel that take into consideration patient safety and that are commensurate with the educational preparation, experience, knowledge, and physical and emotional ability of the person to whom the assignments are made in compliance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Implements measures to promote a safe environment for patients and others and knows the rationale for and the effects of medications and treatments and shall correctly administer the same.
  • Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
  • Clarifies any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the nurse makes the decision not to administer the medication or treatment.
  • Institutes appropriate nursing interventions that might be required to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • No experience required.

Skills and Certifications

  • Current RN license in the State of Texas.
  • BLS certification.
  • Unit specific competencies obtained within six months of hire.
