Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care in the Critical Care unit, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, intervening, evaluating, and educating patients
  • Communicate with various health care team members, patients, and their families
  • Coordinate and delegate appropriate patient care activities to inter-professional colleagues
  • Update and manage patient records
  • Enter and interpret computerized data/information
  • Follow guidelines and policies established by BMC’s nursing organization
  • Assist the leadership team as needed in quality improvement projects

Qualifications

  • Active or pending Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license or the ability to obtain one
  • 1+ years of RN experience preferred
  • Certification in basic life support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required in certain units
  • Nursing degree: Diploma, ASN, or BSN (preferred), with the ability to obtain BSN within 4 years
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty certification required for certain practice areas
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Fluency in another language a plus

About the Critical Care/Medical Intensive Care Unit A & B

Boston Medical Center has two medical intensive care units (MICUs): MICU A with 17 beds and MICU B with 10 beds. Patient populations include the most acute medical patients, such as those with multisystem failure, renal failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and sepsis.
