About the role

MEDIKO is a mission-driven organization dedicated to delivering high-quality medical care to correctional facilities. The Registered Nurse (RN) – MAT/MOUD Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting inmates enrolled in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high-quality patient care in a correctional setting, focusing on MAT/MOUD patients.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing medical screenings and assessments for inmates, with a focus on identifying candidates for MAT/MOUD.
  • Administer MAT/MOUD and other medical treatments, ensuring compliance with physician orders, facility protocols, and healthcare standards.
  • Manage the care of patients with chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and mental health disorders, coordinating with interdisciplinary healthcare providers.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, prioritizing care for patients involved in MAT/MOUD programs.
  • Document all patient assessments, treatments, progress, and outcomes accurately in the EMR.
  • Maintain compliance with state, federal, and local healthcare regulations, as well as facility-specific policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams, including physicians, mental health professionals, addiction counselors, and correctional officers, to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
  • Provide health education to inmates on managing their conditions, medication adherence, recovery strategies, disease prevention, and post-care instructions.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to other nursing staff, assisting in the supervision and training of LPNs and nursing assistants.
  • Ensure that medical equipment and supplies, especially those related to MAT/MOUD, are properly stocked, maintained, and functioning.
  • Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development and review of healthcare policies and clinical procedures.
  • Work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to meet the healthcare needs of the facility.

Requirements

  • A current, valid state(s) license, certificate, and/or credentials documenting ability to practice in applicable role.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
  • Experience in roles that involve direct patient care or administrative support in a regulated environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to the correctional setting is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, adhere to protocols, and deliver high-quality service in a fast-paced, structured environment.
  • Active CPR/BLS certificate required (American Heart Association/American Red Cross guideline approved).

Qualifications

  • Current, valid state(s) licensure, certificate, and/or credentials.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a correctional healthcare or similar environment.
  • Experience in roles involving direct patient care or administrative support.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and policies.
  • Effective time management and adherence to protocols.
