Registered Nurse - Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (Per Diem-Noc shift)

About the Role

The registered nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for planning, directing, assessing, and providing nursing care according to hospital and department policies. Key dimensions include quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, public/customer relations, and broad nursing knowledge. The RN orients new staff, precepts students, and may assume relief charge nurse duties. The role involves evaluating, planning, and implementing patient care, administering medications and treatments, assisting physicians, and monitoring patient conditions.

The RN will work in the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (IICN), providing care for well-baby, nursery, Level 1 and 2 infants, attending deliveries, initiating resuscitation as needed, and stabilizing patients for transfer. The RN may also float to the Family Birth Center (FBC) to provide postpartum maternal and infant care. As a BABY FRIENDLY™ designated hospital, all staff must adhere to the "10 Steps" of the BABY FRIENDLY™ initiative.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, assess, and provide nursing care in accordance with hospital and department policies.
• Orient new staff, precept students, and assume relief charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Evaluate, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care for patients.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments; assist physicians during procedures.
• Monitor and record patient conditions, notifying physicians when appropriate.
• Provide care in the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery (IICN) for well-baby, nursery, Level 1 and 2 infants.
• Attend deliveries, initiate resuscitation as needed, and stabilize infants for transfer to higher levels of care.
• Float to the Family Birth Center (FBC) to provide postpartum maternal and infant care.
• Adhere to the "10 Steps" of the BABY FRIENDLY™ initiative.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience in a Level II or higher nursery or successful completion of a NICU training program.
• Knowledge of well newborn care, newborn delivery admission, resuscitation, and maternal postpartum care (training may be provided).
• Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment.
• Must complete and pass all annual competencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
• State of California RN license required.
• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and NRP Advanced Provider certifications required.
• S.T.A.B.L.E. certification required for hires after April 1, 2025; current staff must complete by September 1, 2026.
• PALS and ENPC certifications preferred.

Pay

Pay range: $83.04 to $111.05 per hour, based on years of applicable experience.

Shift differentials:

• Evening shift: $5.50 per hour
• Night shift: $8.00 per hour

Schedule

Per diem, 12-hour night shift.
