Job Summary and Qualifications
The Staff RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Medical City Fort Worth. In collaboration with the patient, patient’s family, and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN is responsible for assessing the nursing care needs of patients, planning interventions, and evaluating outcomes of care. The RN provides direct care and/or supervises nursing care of LVN’s and non-licensed nursing staff. The RN is responsible for providing care consistent with the Nursing Department’s policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
The RN scope includes charge duties. The clinical supervisor or charge nurse makes patient assignments and supervises and directs the staff and unit activities for the assigned shift. Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care needs of the patient.
- Document nursing care in compliance with policies, procedures, and practices established by the Nursing Department and the hospital.
- Initiates prescribed treatment plan.
- Initiates and carries out nursing plan of care.
- Administers medications, blood, and blood products.
- Provides for activities of daily living for patients.
- Conducts accurate, timely assessment of patients utilizing FIMs scoring.
- Transport patients.
- Maintain peripheral and central lines, PIC lines, Medi ports.
- Manage post-operative pain.
- Manage neuraxial analgesia.
- Manage traction and orthopedic conditions.
- Manage general surgery patients.
- Manage medical patients.
- Assessment and treatment of post-op complications.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative nursing care.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient teaching and education related to specific surgical procedures or adaptations in health status resulting from treatment.
- Participate in discharge planning.
- Provide emotional support for patients and families based on the assessments of their coping skills.
- Perform nursing care in compliance with safety policies and procedures established by the hospital and Nursing Department.
- Perform special assignments as needed/requested.
- Serve as a clinical resource to department staff, students, volunteers, and other departments, and contribute to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
- Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of patients.
- Perform nursing care consistent with the needs of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients requiring treatment and care for pre and post-surgical conditions.
- Attend staff meetings and inservices.
Qualifications
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- American Heart Association ACLS (AHA) preferred.
- Texas RN License or RN Compact State License (RN).
- BSN preferred. If hired into RN required position after September 2014 and no BSN, then BSN required within three years of facility date.
- ADN required.
- Pass the licensed personnel FIM exam using the UDSMR Online Credentialing System within 90 days of hire and again as necessary to maintain the facilities UDS-PRO credential.
- CRRN Preferred.
- Staff RN must have a minimum of 1 year recent nursing experience.
- Experience in Post Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Care setting preferred.
- Experience utilizing Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI) for inpatient rehabilitation preferred.
