About the Role
The competent Nurse practices independently in the same or similar clinical setting, demonstrating awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to work toward long-range goals or plans. Develops the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing and makes appropriate assignments to other care providers to help manage clinical situations.
Responsibilities
- Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Provides nursing care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) for assigned patients, consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.
- Addresses increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with your level of practice.
- Administers medications and treatments using the appropriate protocol; monitors for side-effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
- 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
- BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire).
- RN License in state of employment or compact.
- Current ACLS certification required (within 30 days of hire for experienced associates; within 90 days for new graduates or those new to the specialty).
Onboarding & Competencies
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member; initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of organizational entry competency validation and a MedSurg-specific competency validation.
- Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation; skills and competency completion are documented through the program’s tracking software.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
