Registered Nurse Human Genetic Outpatient

About the role

The Human Genetics – Metabolic Disorders Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a self-motivated, highly organized Registered Nurse II to join our multidisciplinary care team. This role supports patients and families navigating complex diagnoses while serving as a critical member of a team that includes three physician providers, two Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, and two full-time metabolic dietitians.

Responsibilities

• Prepare for clinic visits by ensuring all necessary records, laboratory results, and diagnostic testing are available.
• Attend clinic appointments with providers.
• Absorb patient assessments and clinical documentation.
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, nutrition plans, and follow-up care.
• Serve as a support for patient discharge planning and care coordination.
• Support care coordination among providers, dietitians, specialty pharmacies, insurance companies, and medication manufacturers.
• Monitor laboratory results and communicate findings to providers and families.
• Afford assistance with medication management and prior authorization processes.
• Facilitate referrals and follow-up appointments.
• Triage sick patient calls and electronic messages.
• Manage ongoing communication with families regarding treatment plans and laboratory monitoring.
• Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation.

Qualifications

• Current Ohio Registered Nurse license.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and technology platforms.

Preferred

• Pediatric nursing experience.
• Outpatient or ambulatory care experience.
• Care coordination experience.
• Experience working with complex chronic conditions.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
• Passionate about supporting children and families with complex medical needs.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

This role is full-time, working 32 hours per week (4 days per week) with occasional flexibility for earlier start times or extended clinic days. The day off may vary based on clinic schedules.

Location

The position is located at Burnet Campus, Mason, and Liberty Campuses. Travel between clinic locations is required.
