Registered Nurse -General Adult Unit

Split Night Nurse for General Adult Unit and Community Reintegration Unit. Utilizing the nursing process, responsibility for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assesses patients’ needs utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status.
• Utilizes Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths and performs point of care testing.
• Communicates findings effectively to members of the healthcare team; documentation reflects response to intervention and understanding of patients’ treatment responses.
• Identifies patient behaviors contributing to crisis development; uses non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate crisis situations.
• Accurately plans and prioritizes nursing interventions, modifying and individualizing the Nursing Plan of Care and protocols.
• Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan and partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
• Provides and implements nursing care interventions, establishing a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients.
• Demonstrates safe, accurate, and timely medication administration using BMV scanning; reviews physician orders promptly.
• Promotes least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals; participates in leading patient groups.
• Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions through documentation and communication of clinical status.
• Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions and assumes a leadership role in organizing patient care.
• Provides direction and supervision of Mental Health Specialists (MHSs), delegates care interventions, and leads in medical/psychiatric emergencies.
• Promotes critical incident debriefing following emergency events and anticipates acute milieu problems to delegate staff appropriately.
• Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers; provides health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals.
• Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements and seeking constructive feedback.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication, maintaining patient privacy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
• Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit through effective time management and economical use of resources.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Registered Nurse (RN) state license required.
• No experience required; one year of medical/psychiatric experience preferred.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to utilize the nursing process and work collaboratively.
• MR safety certification and standard blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement).
• Ability to work as part of a team and basic computer skills for clinical/administrative systems.

About the Unit

The adult inpatient unit (NB1) is a generalized inpatient psychiatric unit with a primary focus on the treatment of depression and anxiety. We also care for patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including OCD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, self-harming behaviors, homicidality, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Our team provides patient-centered care through therapeutic engagement, medication management, and behavioral interventions in a supportive, team-based environment.

Pay

Pay Range: $32.78 - $68.33/Hourly (Grade MCL900). At Mass General Brigham, base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors. The provided range is an estimate based on minimum job qualifications and does not encompass all elements of total compensation.
