Schedule

Wednesday–Friday, 3×12-hour shifts (5:30 AM–6:00 PM)

Hiring Bonus: $10,000

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with other members of the health care team, use the nursing process to complete the pre-operative physical, cognitive, spiritual, and psychosocial assessment of patients awaiting surgery.
  • Formulate, review, and revise the plan of care on an ongoing basis.
  • Plan and deliver care based on the patient’s age and level of development.
  • Ensure appropriate information management and documentation using the nursing process in accordance with hospital OR policy; provide reports to other members of the health care team.
  • Supervise LPNs in direct patient care functions and sign off on charting completed in the medical records.
  • Assess patient/family understanding and response to care provided, as well as educational needs; redirect care as needed.
  • Participate in or prepare for in-services and patient care conferences.
  • Maintain “The Joint Commission” standards on an ongoing basis and assist in unit readiness for Joint Commission visits.
  • Participate in department performance improvement activities.
  • Serve on hospital or system committees as assigned; maintain two-way communication between Surgery Center staff and assigned committee.
  • Provide patient care and education according to the patient population served.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current state RN license.
  • CPR (BLS) certification required.
  • ACLS certification required within six months of hire or transfer.
  • PALS certification required within six months of hire or transfer.
  • Prior working knowledge of computer programs and electronic medical records.
  • Available for on-call support (continuously or rotationally).
  • Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Pediatric experience.

  • Clinical competence in providing safe, quality direct patient care and patient/family education, as well as assisting providers in advanced care.
  • Concise communication with patients, families, and staff; collaboration with health care team members.
  • Nursing assessment and critical thinking.
  • Detailed knowledge of the use and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment and supplies.
  • Thorough, concise, accurate, and timely patient documentation.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly to emergencies and stressful situations.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities.
