Registered Nurse - Float Pool Full Time Night
About the Role
The Registered Nurse works under the direction of the Nurse Manager and functions as a Team Leader. He/she is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. The Registered Nurse evaluates patient’s physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient and their family. He/she is responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team, mentoring staff, teaching and demonstrating nursing care procedures, and maintaining a professional profile. The role promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. The Registered Nurse adheres to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Will float to the following units: North 2, North 3, ICU/CCU, or ED.
Responsibilities
- Uses the nursing process to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Collects data relevant to patient’s condition and reports critical values to physician in a timely manner.
- Assesses appropriate lab and diagnostic data.
- Documents findings of physical assessment and identifies abnormal findings.
- Develops plan of care based on patient need.
- Advocates on behalf of the patient and their family.
- Performs interventions according to patient need and hospital policy.
- Evaluates patient outcomes in relation to goals.
- Adheres to all safety guidelines and exercises the utmost care when interacting with patients.
- Demonstrates a professional demeanor in interactions with patient, family, peers, and staff, and maintains open communication with nursing management.
- Other duties as deemed appropriate by management.
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current Licensure to practice in New York State.
- Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Current ACLS provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- PALS required within 90 days of hire.
- TNCC (Obtain within 3 months of hire).
- Ability to stand/walk 90% of the time.
- Ability to lift patients with or without assistance.
- Ability to push heavy objects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum of 2 years acute care nursing experience.
- Recent Emergency Department experience.
- Recent critical care experience.
- NIHSS Certification.
- Moderate Sedation Certification.

- This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair.
- This function/position may be designated as “essential,” requiring employees to remain at their work location or report to work during institutional emergencies to protect, recover, and continue operations.
Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
- Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $57.6372 - $67.6054 per hour, including a night shift differential of $3.02/hour.
