About the role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team for a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation
    • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation, performing age and disease-specific assessments independently and systematically.
    • Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient conditions.
    • Identify patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
    • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes, formulating patient/family-centered goals.
    • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care, ensuring ongoing communication with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
  • Direct Care
    • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
    • Provide or coordinate patient/family education and ensure understanding.
    • Perform care according to established protocols, including communication and documentation.
    • Administer medications using bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
    • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharge planning for safe patient transitions.
  • Evaluation and Critical Thinking
    • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes using critical thinking based on nursing knowledge.
    • Initiate interventions for changes in patient condition or unexpected responses to care.
    • Identify and address ethical issues in practice.
    • Respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Professional Development and Compliance
    • Acquire and maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation and licensing requirements.
    • Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
    • Perform physical requirements, including lifting a minimum of 35 lbs., pushing/pulling 10 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours per day.
    • Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required
    • A minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing.
    • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
    • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
    • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
    • BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 60 days of entering the position.
    • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate a strong sense of accountability for improving patient and caregiver lives.
    • Exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion for delivering high-quality care.
  • Preferred
    • National Certification in area of specialty (when eligible).

Pay

The minimum starting rate for this role is $43.77 per hour. The posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate and may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Eligible positions may also receive shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts, as well as performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
