About the role
We are hiring a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) to support surgical procedures at VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion. The facility will be a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building opening in April 2027.
Responsibilities
- Supports surgical procedures recognized by the attending surgeon as appropriate for the RNFA to participate in.
- Establishes and maintains a surgically clean environment to reduce the potential for infection.
- Administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
- Develops and maintains a therapeutic nurse/patient relationship throughout the health care continuum.
- Facilitates and/or participates on special projects to support the mission of VCU Health.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- Certification in specialty area preferred.
- Successful completion of additional educational preparation specific to the role of RNFA including a supervised clinical component.
Qualifications
- Years and Type of Required Experience: 5 years of clinical experience to include 2 Years RNFA.
- Education: Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program; completion of a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited program preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: Licensure/Certification Required: Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent; Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) certification preferred.
- Employee must complete 15 contact hours of Continuing Nursing Education during this evaluation cycle.

- Expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of complex patients.
- Knowledge of antisepsis, decontamination, disinfection, sanitation, and sterilization.

Employee must complete 15 contact hours of Continuing Nursing Education during this evaluation cycle.
Effective July 2012: CN-IV must complete 25 contact hours
Failure to achieve the required number of contact hours will result in the employee being ineligible to receive an overall performance rating above "Fully Meets"."
