About the Role
Performs an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons during surgical procedures, providing direct patient care in the operating room. Collaborates with the surgical team, patients, and support persons to plan and deliver safe, effective care. Monitors patient responses, administers medications, and manages perioperative plans of care. Participates in professional development, incorporates research into practice, and advocates for patient safety.
Responsibilities
- Assists surgeons intraoperatively, performs focused preoperative assessments, and analyzes data to determine nursing diagnoses.
- Contributes to team efficiency, considering safety, effectiveness, and cost factors in care delivery.
- Adjusts care plans based on patient responses, administers medications, and evaluates patient progress.
- Engages in ongoing professional growth, learns new practices, and supports colleagues' development.
- Provides patient and family education, incorporates research, practices ethically, and advocates for perioperative safety.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2-5 years of nursing experience.
- RN license required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- CNOR and Certified First Assistant (CFA) certifications are preferred.
- CNOR certification is required.
- Previous supervisor experience is not required.
