About the Role

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a highly skilled individual with a keen and accurate attention to detail. This role is responsible for working with surgeons in the operating room by controlling bleeding, suturing incisions and wounds, and intervening if complications arise.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeon in general and specialized surgeries
  • Prepare patients for surgery
  • Provide patient care and support
  • Administer medications
  • Practice surgical procedures such as controlling bleeding, suturing incisions, draping, providing exposure, and handling tissue
  • Prepare all necessary supplies
  • Position and prepare the patient on the operating table
  • Monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate
  • Study patient history and health assessments
  • Perform CPR or other emergency measures if required
  • The RNFA may only perform as first assistant during the procedure and may not act concurrently as scrub nurse
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital

Requirements

  • BSN Degree
  • Graduate of an RNFA program accredited by the Certification Board for Perioperative Nursing
  • Three years’ experience as a Surgical Registered Nurse
  • One year experience as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as a registered nurse in California
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR)
  • Current professional liability insurance

Skills

  • Understanding of standard practices and procedures
  • Medical expertise in handling and cutting tissue, suturing, providing hemostasis, and using medical devices
  • Ability to perform scrub and circulating nurse roles
  • Excellent understanding of multiple surgical procedures
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sterile technique
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment

Pay

Generally starting at $75.21 - $100.96 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

Schedule

Rotating - 08 Hour
