About the Role

The Endoscopy RN reports to the Director of Surgical Services and works under the direct supervision of the department's Nurse Clinical Leader. This role is responsible for providing direct care to patients undergoing procedures in Endoscopy, ensuring high-quality patient care, appropriate equipment use, and collaborative relationships with physicians. The RN fosters a team approach to safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care while adhering to hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory guidelines.

The Endoscopy Staff Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical, intellectual, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients within the ASPAN framework.

Responsibilities

Assessment:
- Establishes pre- and post-procedure nursing diagnoses.
- Examines patient physical status for baseline data.
- Reassesses patient status at designated intervals.
- Ensures accurate documentation of assessment data.
- Communicates patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
- Reviews pertinent test results (EKGs, labs, x-rays) for ongoing assessment and reporting.
Planning of Care:
- Develops a nursing care plan by eliciting patient concerns and providing a conducive environment.
- Coordinates an interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Develops teaching plans for patients, families, and caregivers relevant to discharge needs.
Implementation of Plan:
- Applies the plan of care and monitors effectiveness.
- Administers medications and monitors for effects.
- Assists anesthesiologists, gastroenterologists, and other healthcare providers during treatments and procedures.
- Applies relaxation techniques and encourages patient participation.
Evaluating Plan of Care:
- Reviews and updates the treatment plan in collaboration with the healthcare team, patient, and family.
- Communicates ongoing patient care needs to discharge caregivers.
- Accepts primary nurse role for assigned patients.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment, correcting hazards promptly.
- Adheres to hospital safety policies and documents patient information accurately.
Additional Duties:
- Supports department customer service efforts and provides service excellence.
- Assists physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes.
- Develops and maintains professional relationships with physicians, peers, patients, families, and support services.
- Follows infection control principles as outlined in policy and procedure manuals.
- Participates in the department’s performance improvement program.
- Assumes responsibility for professional development and ongoing education.
- Attends staff meetings and mandatory in-services.
- Maintains patient dignity, privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
- Participates as a team member to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
- Participates in hospital/unit committees.

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of New Hampshire or a valid compact state license.
Associate Degree in Nursing.
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for ASPAN, CDC, OSHA, CMS, and SGNA.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Strong customer-focused interpersonal communication skills and commitment to patient confidentiality.
