Responsibilities

• Develop and implement an individualized perioperative patient plan of care, including:
  • Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources.
  • Demonstrating safe operation of equipment and reporting unsafe situations.
  • Advocating for patient safety and speaking up with concerns.
  • Handling specimens according to facility policy and procedures.
  • Adhering to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Complying with Universal Protocol, site validation, and time-out policies.
  • Communicating the patient’s current status to relevant parties throughout care.
• Administer medications safely and correctly using the 8 rights of medication administration.
• Practice and monitor aseptic technique.
• Implement the plan of care, including:
  • Managing patient recovery from anesthesia (moderate sedation and monitored anesthesia care).
  • Assessing patient status at intervals per facility policies.
  • Providing nursing care and appropriate monitoring.
  • Performing interventions to maintain tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Ensuring scopes are prepared per policies and manufacturer instructions.
  • Maintaining endoscopy instruments and troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Performing interventions to maintain or return the patient’s physiological systems (genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, fluid/electrolyte/acid-base balances) to baseline levels.
  • Ensuring the patient is at or returned to normothermia post-operatively.
  • Protecting the patient from infection.
• Assess the patient’s or designated support person’s knowledge level and provide education on:
  • Expected psychosocial responses.
  • Nutritional and medication management.
  • Pain management and expected responses to the procedure.
• Involve the patient or support person in decisions about their care and rehabilitation.
• Protect the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Provide age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards.
• Evaluate the patient’s progress toward outcomes and transfer care as applicable.
• Provide accurate, concise, and pertinent hand-off reports to other team members.
• Delegate tasks according to state Nurse Practice Act, job descriptions, and facility policies.
• Document care accurately, timely, completely, and legibly.
• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
• Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.
• Participate in quality review, performance improvement projects, and the performance appraisal process.
• Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships.
• Maintain required competencies and pursue professional growth.
• Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy/confidentiality of health information.
• Comply with SCA and facility policies, regulatory/accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.
• Actively participate in team meetings, trainings, and daily safety huddles.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current state nursing licensure in good standing.
• One year of GI, OR, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred.
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
• Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment or current certification.
• Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of employment if pediatric care is within the facility’s scope of services.
• Specialty certification in GI Nursing preferred.

Pay

USD $28.61–$36.00 per hour.
