Registered Nurse - Emergency Department, Per Diem Variable Shift

About the Role

The Facility Central Harnett Hospital Emergency Department seeks a Registered Nurse to plan and implement professional nursing care for patients in accordance with hospital policies. The role includes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and identify patient care needs.
• Use patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care.
• Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Facilitate a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Maintain required competencies and function as charge nurse as assigned.
• Maintain an accurate and relevant record of patient care.
• Administer medication as ordered by a physician.
• Recognize life-threatening situations and respond appropriately.
• Establish collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff.
• Monitor the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators.
• Actively participate in cost containment and assist in accurate charging for patient services.
• Adjust care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients.
• Support patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within the limits of the medical regimen.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Experience in hospital and emergency settings preferred.
• Three or more years of experience in ED/ER or Med-Surg.

Unit Description

The Emergency Department (ED) provides high-quality, compassionate emergency care to patients presenting with a variety of acute medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions. The unit consists of 12-22 treatment beds and covers all phases of emergency service: triage, stabilization, treatment, and disposition (admission, transfer, or discharge). The patient population includes pediatric, adult, and geriatric individuals, encompassing both low-acuity and high-acuity presentations. The care team is composed of Registered Nurses, paramedics, certified nursing assistants, physicians, and advanced practice providers, all working collaboratively to provide safe, efficient, and quality care. The electronic medical record system is EPIC.

Weekend and holiday rotations are scheduled according to departmental needs and staffing guidelines. There are no mandatory on-call or overtime requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity sufficient for communication of patient needs.
• Visual acuity for observation of patients.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
• Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
