About the role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care according to evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care.
  • Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation:
    • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation, performing age and disease-specific assessments independently.
    • Recognize clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status and identify patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
    • Develop a plan of care with patient/family-centered goals and outcomes, prioritizing and encompassing the continuum of care.
    • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
    • Provide or coordinate patient/family education and ensure understanding.
    • Perform care and treatments reflecting patient needs, advocating appropriately, and demonstrating evidence-based practice.
    • Document assessments, plans of care, interventions, and evaluations using Point-of-Care electronic systems.
    • Administer medications using bar-scanning and documentation technologies for safe delivery.
    • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharge planning for safe patient transitions and continuum of care.
    • Evaluate progress toward outcomes using critical thinking to achieve desired patient results.
    • Initiate interventions for changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
    • Identify and address ethical issues in practice with the healthcare team.
    • Enhance patient satisfaction by responding to opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation and licensing requirements.
  • Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Perform physical requirements: lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing.
  • BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs.
  • Strong sense of accountability for improving patients' and caregivers' lives.
  • Exceptional focus on teamwork and dedication to ongoing education.
  • Passion for delivering high-quality care with a strong patient focus.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:

  • National Certification in area of specialty (preferred when eligible).

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by date of hire.
  • BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.

Pay

The starting rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role, with a minimum rate of $46.25 per hour. The base compensation may vary based on factors including labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Some roles may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, commissions, or shift differentials for evening, night, or weekend shifts.
