Registered Nurse - Emergency Department - Full Time - Nights - 7pm to 7:30a

This Registered Nurse (RN) 2 role exists within a designated inpatient specialty area.

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) 2 is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for a group of population-specific patients—from simple to complex, with multi-system issues—in a safe and therapeutic environment. The RN uses knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan to interpret patient data and identify age-specific needs. The RN engages in caring relationships with patients, families, and significant others, collaborates with healthcare teams, and exercises sound judgment in nursing and medical interventions. The role adheres to specialty and organizational standards, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols, and reports to the Director and/or Nurse Manager. May supervise Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care.
• Applies principles of purposeful, organized thinking to make clinical judgments and decisions.
• Gathers data through history-taking and physical assessment, interpreting it to plan and implement interventions.
• Develops, evaluates, and revises patient care plans and nursing actions in response to patient needs.
• Documents care provided and patient progress toward desired outcomes.
• Directs and supervises others in performing delegated nursing activities.
• Teaches patients and/or significant others about the plan of care, preparing them for post-discharge management, transfers, or procedures/tests.
• Manages time and resources to deliver patient care.
• Administers medications to patients.

Requirements

• Graduated from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Registered Nurse licensure – New Hampshire Board of Nursing.
• Basic Life Support certification – American Heart Association.
• Refer to "Management of Mandatory Required Certification, Competencies, Education/Training-Nursing" Policy for department-specific certifications.
• One year of prior clinical nursing experience.
• Evidence of experience working effectively and positively with patients, care providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to perform as a team member.

Occasionally exposed to airborne contaminants, chemotherapeutic agents, electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, non-weather-related heat or cold, slippery surfaces, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.
