Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

Schedule

Full-time day schedule, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, 72 hours bi-weekly. Every third weekend required. Rotating holidays. Weekend differential offered.

About the role

The Emergency Department is a fast-paced environment caring for patients of all ages with emergency medical complaints. The high-volume ED sees approximately 45,000 patients annually. Nursing staff are supported by a Director, Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Managers, Clinical Educators, and On-Boarding Specialists. The comprehensive ED-specific orientation covers care for high-risk patients, life-threatening conditions and illnesses, psychiatric disorders, and lower-acuity patients. Certifications covered in orientation include BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Responsibilities

• Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with patient and family-centered care principles, the nursing process, and hospital clinical standards
• Acts as primary nurse for patients on the unit
• Synthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans
• Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions based on assessment and plan of care
• Organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload
• Identifies changes in patients' status and acts accordingly; knows and activates resources to achieve patient outcomes
• Identifies and communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of care
• Collaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines
