Registered Nurse - Emergency Department

About the role

As an RN in the Emergency Department at Lakeview Hospital, you will assess, plan, perform, document, and evaluate professional independent nursing practice. Responsibilities include providing work direction and oversight of nursing care delivered by unlicensed personnel, carrying out provider’s medical orders, assisting with diagnostic and treatment procedures, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment. You will coordinate, communicate, interpret, and explain patient care services to patients, their families, health professionals, and others.

Schedule

0.75 FTE (30 hours per week), 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM, including every third weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, perform, and document professional nursing practice.
• Provide work direction and oversight for unlicensed personnel.
• Carry out provider’s medical orders and assist with diagnostic/treatment procedures.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
• Coordinate, communicate, and explain patient care to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing with current enrollment in an Associate or Bachelor of Nursing program, or Registered Nursing Certificate (post-baccalaureate degree).
• Licensed as an RN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing or holds a Wisconsin RN License with Minnesota Border State Registry.
• Registered nurses re-entering the field who have not completed 520 hours of nursing practice in the past four years must complete a recognized refresher course before employment.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & Health Care Provider).
• ACLS certification required from the AHA within 6 months of start date if not present at hire.
• PALS or ENPC certification required within 6 months of start date if not present at hire.
• TNCC certification required within one year of start date if not present at hire.
• NIHSS certification within 6 months of start date.
• One year of recent RN critical care or critical care Paramedic experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Baccalaureate or Master’s degree in Nursing.
• Associate Degree-prepared nurses enrolled in a Baccalaureate in Nursing program.
• Specialty certification in the RN’s area of expertise (e.g., CCRN, PCCN, CNOR, CPAN, CAPA).
