About the role
The Emergency Department Staff Nurse is directly responsible and accountable for the care given to their assigned Emergency patients. This includes assessment of patient needs, including life-threatening emergencies, development of a flexible nursing plan of care, administration and evaluation of nursing care, and supervision of others in the delivery of nursing care.

Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures
- Knowledge and skills in techniques of patient care
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Willingness to flex up for short-term needs such as vacations or illness
- Dependable regarding attendance and self-motivated
- Minimize unplanned work absence
Qualifications
- RN currently licensed with the Oregon State Board of Nursing
- BLS required upon hire through the American Heart Association
- ACLS, PALS/ENPC required (new graduates or employees new to this unit will have six months to complete through the American Heart Association)
- TNCC required within a year of hire in this unit
- CEN preferred
Education and Experience
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Previous satisfactory acute care hospital experience of one year preferred
- Previous satisfactory Emergency Department Care experience relevant to the patient population of this unit or completion of an approved Emergency Department course
- For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months, and have not previously completed a residency program, completion of the CMH-provided Nurse Residency program is required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Works inside
- Walking and standing much of the time while on duty
- Ability to lift and transfer patients, usually with the assistance of co-workers
- Normal or corrected vision required
- Normal or corrected hearing necessary to distinguish differences in heartbeats, breathing, and monitor alarms
- Manual dexterity required to operate equipment
- Subject to physical and emotional stress of work environment
- Occasional exposure to infectious diseases
- Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts, and equipment carts
- Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs, and ambulates as necessary
- Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8–12 hours (shift dependent)
- Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs
Pay
$57.63 to $82.02 per hour, dependent on experience.
