About the role
The Outpatient Medicine Department at the Long Beach VA Healthcare System is currently seeking a Registered Nurse Educator in the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities
- Provides expert, evidence-based emergency nursing education to staff
- Trains nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units
- Develops educational trainings for clinical staff within the organization
- Assists with the orientation of new employees and development of learning plans
- Serves as a trainer and consultant for the Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program, including certification as a Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor
- Maintains and tracks BLS/Advanced Life Support (ALS) compliance within the organization
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to support and evaluate emergency responses
- Supports nurse residency programs and develops curriculum using strategic learning methodologies
- Evaluates current practice and formulates outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes
- Consults and collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs
- Analyzes, interprets, and evaluates data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs
Requirements
Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency
- Current full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse
- Completion of a master's level bridge program in nursing with opportunity to become registered as a nurse before completion
- Completion of coursework equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Nursing
- Formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA
- Master's degree in Nursing or related field with a BSN
- Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field with a BSN
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-10 years of ED nursing experience
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation
- Experience in didactic instruction and competency management
- Technologically proficient
- Experience leading teams, projects, and multiple competing priorities
- CERTIN or CCRN experience
- CERNER experience with technological innovation
Skills
- Expert-level coaching and mentoring skills
- Systematic evaluation of current practice
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate data
- Ability to propose practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes
