Registered Nurse Educator - Cath Lab/EP/IR - Full Time - Days - Utica, NY

About the Role

The Nurse Educator assesses the educational needs of nursing staff, students, and others to plan and deliver orientation and continuing education. Serves as a resource by mentoring staff and monitoring/evaluating clinical competencies to ensure the highest quality clinical outcomes and safety. Participates in committees to facilitate and reinforce the implementation of evidence-based care, ensuring nurses comply with regulatory standards and act as role models.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs for nursing staff, the hospital, and the community.
• Contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues through innovative programs in classroom settings and on nursing units.
• Collaborates with Nursing Leadership to assess educational needs of staff.
• Identifies orientation needs of new employees, plans individualized orientation, and evaluates progress toward competency.
• Ensures new employees attend hospital and/or unit-specific mandatory programs.
• Documents progress and competency per policy and addresses issues in collaboration with Nurse Leadership.
• Assesses nursing staff and student practice through direct observation, chart reviews, and participation in quality monitors.
• Develops plans to educate staff based on identified needs to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
• Conducts classes and/or provides individualized instruction.
• Develops objectives and course outlines for unit in-service programs.
• Works with Nurse Leadership to develop and implement individualized employee improvement or development plans.
• Tracks progression and achievement of competency.
• Investigates concerns of nursing practice and stays current with the latest research in area of expertise.
• Creates an environment that optimizes patient safety and quality of care.
• Provides clear and constructive feedback to educate effectively.
• Works a minimum of one 8-hour shift per month as a direct care RN to maintain current patient care techniques and foster teamwork.
• Participates in the development of standards of nursing care practice through assigned committees and workgroups.
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and departments.
• May provide direct patient care and guide staff in delivering quality nursing care.
• Maintains high standards of professional responsibility and performance while encouraging skill development in nursing staff.
• Supports and role-models policies and procedures to ensure excellent care and customer service.
• Ensures compassionate, patient-centered care that addresses patient and family needs in a timely manner.
• Complies with all training and competency requirements.
• Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in area of specialty.

Qualifications

• Required: Current and unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in NY State.
• Preferred: BSN or MSN, AHA BLS and/or ACLS Instructor certification, and certification in area of specialty.

Pay

$74,000 - $119,000 annually
