Registered Nurse-Depression & Anxiety

Summary

Utilizing the nursing process, responsibility for providing for immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital and regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions

• Accurately assesses patients' needs. Utilizes multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status. Utilizes Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths. Performs point of care testing. Communicate findings effectively to members of the healthcare team. Documentation reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients' response to treatment interventions.
• Identifies patient behaviors that contribute to the development of a crisis; utilizes non-verbal and verbal techniques to de-escalate a crisis situation.
• Accurately plans nursing interventions for assigned patients. Modifies and individualizes Nursing Plan of Care and protocols. Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan. Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs. Partners with patients/families to support recovery goals.
• Provides and implements nursing care interventions. Establishes a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients. Demonstrates safe, accurate and timely medication administration using BMV scanning. Reviews physician orders in a timely manner. Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals. Participates in leading patient groups.
• Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions. Documentation on the Nursing Plan of Care, protocols, and Assessment Flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients' response to treatment interventions. Accurately communicate patients' clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports. Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
• Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care. Provides direction and supervision of MHSs. Delegate care interventions. Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies. Promotes/provides for critical incident de-briefing following emergency event. Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately. Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
• Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others. Provides health teaching related to patient needs and recovery goals. Documents teaching in the patient's record. Informs treatment team of patients and significant others' learning needs.
• Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency. Completes mandatory in-service requirements. Maintains competency for treating patient population. Seeks constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues. Identifies strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor.
• Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality. Communicate positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff. Presents self in a positive and professional manner.
• Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit. Demonstrates effective time management. Demonstrates economical management of services and supplies. Notifies shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.

Qualifications

• Education: Other Certificate/Diploma Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
• Licenses and Credentials: Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required.
• Experience: No experience required; one year medical/psychiatric experience preferred (0-1 year preferred).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Requires demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to utilize the nursing process and to work collaboratively.
• MR safety certification.
• Standard blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement). (Required).
• Ability to work as part of a team. (Required).
• All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes. (Required).

Additional Job Details

The Short Term Unit (AB1 North & South) focuses on depression, anxiety, suicidality, self-injurious behavior, trauma, and personality disorders. We also commonly see comorbid substance use disorder, OCD, and eating disorders. Our patient interactions/interventions are therapeutic, highly interpersonal, and skills-based.

Schedule

Rotating shift, 32 scheduled weekly hours. Onsite work location at 115 Mill Street.
