About the role
The Registered Nurse or BSN position within the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled (MSSD) is responsible for coordinating and implementing health screenings, special health care procedures, and providing training and support to students and staff.
Responsibilities
- Cook up and implement a health screening plan.
- Coordinate, design, and execute special health care procedures.
- Train on lifting techniques, basic first aid, infection control, medication dispensing, CPR, and other in-service as needed.
- Administer medication and other health care procedures.
- Follow proper nursing procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Participate in staffing and Individualized Education Program (IEP) conferences to share information on the student's physical and health needs.
- Oversee Special Health Care Plans (SHCP) to ensure they are completed correctly and necessary supplies are available.
- Notify parents if additional supplies are needed.
- Utilize each student's individual communication system.
- Take a leadership role in developing and implementing a comprehensive school health plan.
- Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
- Collaborate with the building administrator to maintain an orderly, attractive, safe, and clean environment.
- Maintain CPR training instructor certification.
- Maintain confidentiality of parent, student, and staff personally identifiable information.
Requirements
- Be licensed as a registered nurse in Missouri.
- Experience with pediatrics and/or individuals with disabilities.
- The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.
Qualifications and Experience
In addition to the above requirements, the position also accepts other qualifications and experience deemed suitable by the Commissioner of Education.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $46,272 - $49,872. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed this range.
