Registered Nurse - Critical Care - Per Diem - Nights

About the role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research, nursing policies, and standards of care to provide and ensure safe and excellent individualized patient care.
• Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation:
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Perform age and disease-specific assessment/data collection independently in a systematic manner focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient status.
  • Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulate age and disease-specific patient/family-centered goals/outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develop and coordinate a plan of care that is patient/family-focused, prioritized, and encompasses the continuum of care.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team regarding patient status, rendered care, and treatment plans.
  • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding.
  • Perform according to established protocols in clinical situations, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Provide nursing care and treatments that reflect patients' needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence-based nursing practice and compliance with standards.
  • Perform continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of each patient's assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administer medication utilizing the newest advancements in bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharging of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to patient's change in condition and unexpected response to care.
  • Identify ethical issues in the practice setting and bring them to the attention of other team members.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
• Acquire and maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
• Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
• Perform physical tasks including lifting a minimum of 35 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing a minimum of 6 hours a day.
• Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
• Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Current and valid New Jersey Nursing license is required.
• Active American Heart Association (AHA) BLS/CPR certification is required.
• ACLS certification is strongly preferred.
• Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
• 1 year of Critical Care Experience is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
• Proficiency in the care of complex medical, cardiac, and surgical patients.
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Therapeutic Hypothermia, ICP Monitoring, invasive pressure monitoring, and Roto-Prone is strongly preferred.
• NIH Stroke Certification, 12 Lead EKG, and Critical Care Course are strongly preferred.
• Required to achieve a national nursing certification within 2 years of hire.

Pay

The minimum starting rate of pay for this role is $46.25 per hour. Posted rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer, and the base compensation may vary based on factors including labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, and budget considerations. Some positions may also be eligible for shift differentials, performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions.
