Registered Nurse - Critical Care - F/T Nights

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health, you will function as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role focuses on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team for a variety of complex patients. You will direct and oversee care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, while effectively coordinating patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities

• Assessment
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Perform age and disease-specific assessments independently in a systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient conditions.
  • Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences.
• Plan
  • Develop a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
  • Formulate age and disease-specific, patient/family-centered goals and outcomes based on assessment data.
  • Develop and coordinate a plan of care that is patient/family-focused, prioritized, and encompasses the continuum of care.
• Implementation
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing communication with patient/family, nursing colleagues, and other members of the healthcare team regarding the patient's status, rendered care, and treatment plans.
  • Implement age and disease-specific care in an organized and timely manner.
  • Provide or coordinate patient/family education as needed and ensure understanding.
  • Perform according to established protocols in clinical situations, including communicating with appropriate persons and documenting events.
  • Provide nursing care and treatments that reflect patients' needs, advocate appropriately, and demonstrate evidence-based practice and compliance with standards.
  • Perform continuous Point-of-Care electronic documentation of each patient's assessments, plan-of-care, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care.
  • Administer medication utilizing bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safe delivery.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary discharging of patients to ensure safe transitioning and continuum of care.
• Evaluation
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
  • Utilize critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Identify ethical issues in the practice setting and bring them to the attention of other team members.
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Acquire and maintain competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet facility accreditation or individual licensing requirements.
  • Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
  • Lift a minimum of 35 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours a day.
  • Adhere to HMH's Organizational and Managerial competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements

• A minimum of an Associate in Nursing or diploma in Nursing degree.
• BSN in progress and/or willingness to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
• Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work at the assigned HMH location by the date of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification by the American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.
• Six (6) or more months of acute care nursing experience OR active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health’s Nurse Residency Program.
• ICU experience preferred; proficiency in the care of complex medical, cardiac, and surgical patients is preferred.
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Therapeutic Hypothermia, ICP Monitoring, invasive pressure monitoring, and Roto-Prone strongly preferred.
• NIH Stroke Certification, 12 Lead EKG, Critical Care Course strongly preferred.
• National Certification in area of specialty preferred when eligible.
• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing patient needs, and demonstrate a strong sense of accountability for improving patients' and caregivers' lives.
• Exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and the ability to deliver high-quality care based on patient focus.

Pay

Minimum starting rate of $46.25 per hour. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting. The actual base compensation may vary based on factors such as labor market data, experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Full-time and part-time (20+ hours/week) positions are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
