Schedule

  • PRN – minimum of 24 hours off shift per 6-week schedule
  • 12-hour shifts (day, evening, night)
  • Weekend and holiday shifts as needed
  • Shift and weekend differential eligibility

Responsibilities

  • Implement, direct, and coordinate patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Recognize and treat physical and psychosocial changes unique to the age/population group served
  • Demonstrate safe medication practice
  • Maintain a professional image reflecting the employee’s role in healthcare
  • Complete chart checks to ensure no missed orders and accurately transcribe physician’s orders
  • Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills and assess patient education needs
  • Attend at least 50% of staff/committee meetings and in-services
  • Demonstrate leadership through the nursing process and supervision while maintaining accountability for treatment and patient outcomes
  • Act as a resource person regarding patient care, specialty area, orientation, and teaching of staff
  • Analyze assessment data, identify priority problems, and document on Plan of Care in PCS for patients, families, and significant others
  • Use effective problem-solving skills to plan patient care and respond to changes in patient condition
  • Complete and document discharge assessment against plan of care goals
  • Initiate and maintain Intravenous Therapy according to IV standards
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Utilize proper body mechanics to prevent injury to self and others
  • Safely position, transfer, and transport patients
  • Function as a virtual nurse as assigned (admissions, discharges, education, documentation, collaboration with bedside staff)
  • Utilize appropriate nursing assessment as established by department standards of patient care
  • Set up equipment and assist with insertion of Swan-Ganz catheter, arterial line, and/or multilumen
  • Care for patients with Swan-Ganz catheters, including cardiac outputs
  • Assist with temporary pacemaker insertion and demonstrate proper application of external pacemaker
  • Defibrillate patients and assist with cardioversion procedures
  • Demonstrate proper administration of thrombolytic agents and care for patients receiving them
  • Draw blood from multilumen, Swan-Ganz, or arterial lines
  • Discontinue Swan-Ganz, multilumen, temporary pacemaker, or arterial lines
  • Care for patients on mechanical ventilation and assist with intubation
  • Assess and evaluate patient response during post-surgical recovery for surgical critical care patients
  • Describe role and responsibility in assessing and reporting physical, emotional, sexual abuse, and neglect
  • Demonstrate proper technique for IABP therapy
  • Complete cardiac rehab exercises
  • Achieve credentialing in conscious sedation by >84% score on exam annually and demonstrate appropriate clinical performance
  • Complete a 12-lead EKG
  • Demonstrate proper initiation of vasopressor agents
  • Interpret ECG patterns
  • Care for patients with Impella catheter assist devices
  • Care for post-tracheostomy and peritoneal dialysis patients
  • Collaborate with other departments and disciplines to meet patient needs
  • Complete mandatory education and in-services by due date
  • Complete annual health screening
  • Assist with insertion of chest tubes, including set-up and post-insertion care
  • Demonstrate proficiency in applying vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) dressings

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • Evidence of participation in educational programs to update and maintain current knowledge and clinical skills
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required
  • Previous nursing experience in specialty area preferred
  • For Critical Care Unit: at least two years of acute care nursing experience (Tele-Observation, IMCU, CCU, Cath Lab, ED)

Certifications/Licensure

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in Pennsylvania
  • Certification in specialty preferred
  • CPR certification required
  • ACLS required (or achieved within specified timeframe for certain units)
  • PALS required for Emergency, PACU, and Pediatric trained staff within one year from start date
  • NRP required for Level II NICU
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitor interpretation required for multiple units
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) clearance and fingerprinting required
  • Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training in accordance with Act 31 of 2014 required
