About the Role

Regions Hospital is seeking a patient-focused Registered Nurse to join our Cardiac Medicine/Progressive Care Unit. This role is key to providing exceptional care within our Level I Trauma Center. The unit serves patients with complex medical needs, including:

  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
  • Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI)
  • Chest pain and coronary artery disease
  • Post-intervention sheath management
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and pneumonia
  • End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and peritoneal dialysis
  • Liver failure
  • Alcohol withdrawal and other intoxicants
  • Various cardio-respiratory problems

The unit experiences a high volume of daily admissions, discharges, and transfers, offering an excellent opportunity to broaden clinical assessment skills and learn a wide variety of disease processes. South 8 also houses the remote telemetry cockpit, staffed by specially trained PCAs skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation.

Our Professional Nursing Practice Model emphasizes patient and family-centered care, focusing on healing at the bedside. Nurses are empowered to manage their clinical practice through our Shared Governance Model, which prioritizes evidence-based nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with complex medical and co-morbid conditions.
  • Manage a high volume of admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices in daily nursing care.
  • Participate in the Shared Governance Model to enhance clinical practice and working environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with 1 year of RN experience. Internal new graduate applicants may meet requirements with an ADN.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the State of Minnesota.
  • Current CPR for the professional rescuer or BLS for healthcare providers.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse patient population from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN or MSN strongly preferred; generally expected to obtain BSN/MSN within 5 years of hire.
  • One year of acute care RN experience.

Schedule

0.70 FTE, night shifts. 8-hour shifts during the week; 12-hour shifts every 3rd weekend.
