Registered Nurse-Cardiac Diagnostic

Location: Upper East Side, NYC • 35 hours per week • Exempt

About the Role

Under direction, you will assist physicians with patient care, health education, EMR chart management, coordination of care, and clinical protocols. As a clinical expert, you will provide seamless service for patients with heart conditions, involving advanced clinical assessment, symptom management, medications management, patient education, and psychological care.

Responsibilities

• Establish priorities for nursing care through patient assessment and develop nursing care plans.
• Prepare equipment and assist providers during examination, testing, and treatment of patients.
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic cardiac stress testing in accordance with protocols and accreditation guidelines.
• Prepare patients for stress testing, including interviews, medical history, consent, and education on nuclear imaging procedures, risks, and complications.
• Operate exercise equipment and monitor patients before, during, and after exams, including hemodynamic measurements, respiratory parameters, and cardiac arrhythmias or ECG changes.
• Communicate changes in patient status to authorized providers and healthcare team members.
• Implement emergency measures to optimize respiratory and circulatory status until qualified personnel assume care.
• Start IVs for administration of radioactive agents.
• Administer medications and educate patients and staff on pharmacologic effects and protocol requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary healthcare services and arrange diagnostic tests as ordered by physicians.
• Perform inpatient diagnostic testing, therapeutic, and interventional procedures in conjunction with physicians.
• Triage patient inquiries and communicate test results.
• Ensure infection control compliance within the practice.
• Participate in safety programs and orient new staff.
• Assist in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
• Handle precertification and preauthorization of prescriptions when needed.
• Record medical information in patients' electronic medical records as appropriate.
• Attend workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay updated on standards and best practices; disseminate information to colleagues and staff.
• Assess patient eligibility and review medical history for inclusion in clinical studies, if applicable.
• Complete protocol history sheets, flow sheets, study follow-up reports, and patient evaluation forms, if applicable.
• Prepare and amend IRB protocols, consent forms, and research documents.

Requirements

• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing.
• Approximately 5 years of clinical nursing experience in a cardiac diagnostic imaging or cardiac telemetry setting. Extensive experience as a Registered Nurse may be considered in lieu of the BSN.
• Current NY State Registered Nurse License & Registration.
• BLS certification, issued by the American Heart Association.
• Infection Control Certificate.
• Successful completion of an AHA-sponsored course in advanced cardiovascular life support and regular renewal.

Skills and Knowledge

• Must be articulate and possess a professional demeanor.
• Competence in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Knowledge of basic cardiovascular and exercise physiology, including hemodynamic response to exercise.
• Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmias and the ability to recognize and treat serious arrhythmias.
• Knowledge of cardiovascular drugs and their effects on exercise performance, hemodynamics, and the ECG.
• Knowledge of the effects of age and disease on hemodynamic and ECG responses to exercise.
• Knowledge of principles and details of exercise testing, including proper lead placement and skin preparation.

Working Conditions

• Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
• Role requires the direct handling of radioactive agents.

Pay

Salary range: $123,200.00 - $138,500.00.
