REGISTERED NURSE

About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides and coordinates care for patients, families, and significant others in the ambulatory care setting. Responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, planning, and intervening in actual or potential health problems, as well as evaluating patient responses to care. The RN educates patients, families, and significant others on health maintenance strategies and collaborates with a designated healthcare team to plan and achieve patient care goals.

The RN demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development principles across the lifespan, assessing and interpreting patient data to meet age-specific and individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical, technical, administrative, and service-related tasks.
• Record, report, and interpret clients' responses, collaborating with the healthcare team in Family Practice.
• Identify components of the nursing regimen that may be delegated to allied nursing personnel and provide necessary teaching and guidance.
• Systematically and continuously assess patients' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health status and knowledge base to determine healthcare and educational needs.
• Triage all sick and walk-in patients.
• Establish therapeutic and supportive relationships with patients and families.
• Ensure proper, cost-effective utilization of resources.
• Maintain an environment conducive to patient care and facilitating patient flow.
• Promote and ensure patient safety in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
• Practice and monitor infection control.
• Monitor patient flow and reassign staff as needed.
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
• Participate in the development of other staff members.
• Meet regulatory, licensure, and annual health assessment requirements.
• Identify learning strengths and needs, utilizing learning resources.
• Attend in-service and continuing education programs.
• Obtain certification in area of practice and demonstrate competence.
• Utilize selected information systems effectively.
• Participate in special projects and committees.
• Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development.
• Maintain a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude with patients, families, and staff.
• Display courtesy, tact, and patience during interactions with all members of the hospital staff and community.
• Inform and educate patients/families to enable their participation in care and decision-making.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and patient responses to care, collaborating with team members to adjust plans as needed.
• Communicate pertinent information and changes in patient status to appropriate team members and healthcare providers.
• Supervise and mentor LPNs, Medical Assistants, and Nursing students.
• Understand and fulfill necessary paperwork obligations on time.
• Adhere to and understand nursing policies and procedures.
• Stay abreast of new and changing techniques and concepts.
• Contribute to a cooperative, friendly, and mutually supportive work environment.
• Work independently and assure new assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in an Ambulatory, Medical Surgery, or ER setting preferred.
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, make decisions, organize, and direct the work of others.
• Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience.
• Demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture and administer medications, including immunizations.
• Demonstrated clinical, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve using critical thinking.
• Demonstrated basic computer skills, including typing.

Qualifications

• AAS/BS in Nursing.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in New York State with current RN Registration Certificate.
• Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification.
• Current Infection Control Certificate.
• Current Child Abuse Certificate.
