Position Summary
Registered Nurses (RNs) provide direct nursing care to inmate patients, applying the nursing process—assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation—in accordance with professional nursing standards. RNs collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure effective patient care and desired health outcomes. Correctional nurses deliver care to promote and improve overall health, often managing a patient population that has had limited access to healthcare prior to incarceration. This role allows RNs to care for a wide range of conditions, from minor ailments to complex medical or behavioral health issues.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Minimum Work Experience: Clinical experience as a Registered Nurse
- Required Skills: Excellent critical thinking and clinical assessment skills, Ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment, Assertive, empathetic, and able to provide objective patient care, Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills, Basic computer proficiency, Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team, Ability to earn the respect and confidence of inmates and staff, Demonstrating commitment to the facility’s mission, Maintain active Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification
