About the role
NaphCare is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team of medical professionals in Torrington, WY, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for individuals incarcerated in the Wyoming Department of Corrections - Medium Correctional Facility. As a Correctional Registered Nurse, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care in a controlled, security-focused environment. This unique position allows you to make a difference for a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply—we provide training in correctional healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial health screenings and physical assessments of newly detained individuals.
- Monitor and document patient health, including vital signs and medical histories.
- Provide direct patient care, triage, assess patient needs, develop care plans, and coordinate services.
- Manage acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.
- Respond to medical emergencies, provide first aid, and ensure timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities.
- Educate patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention.
- Adhere to correctional facility security protocols while collaborating with correctional officers and healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety.
- Maintain accurate medical records, document treatment plans, and report relevant information.
Requirements
- Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the state.
- Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
- Knowledge of nursing practice principles, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, and applicable healthcare laws and regulations.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Flexible schedule and availability to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to facility policies and legal requirements.
- Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and walk significant distances.
- Perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining balance and endurance throughout a shift.
