Registered Nurse

Job Description

Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members.

Safety and Compliance

• Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines.
• Ensures appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities.
• Fulfills patient identification requirements per JBI for all patient encounters.
• Maintains confidentiality of all patient and employee information.

Documentation and Training

• Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients.
• Educates patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
• Trains new employees related to job duties according to JBIs.

Supplies and Inventory

• Assists with inventory and re-stocking medical supplies.
• Recommends purchase of new items as needed.
• Places stock in storage areas in a timely manner.

Teaching and Communication

• Teaches patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course.
• Interacts with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
• Performs telephone triage, prioritizing incoming calls and messages from patients, family members, hospitals, nursing facilities, pharmacies, and physician offices from emergent to non-urgent.

Education and Certification

• Nursing Degree
• Unencumbered RN License in state of employment or multi-state license
• Certified CPR and BLS
• Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed

Experience

• Experience with hematology/oncology patients in a clinic or hospital setting
• Ability to assess patient needs and condition is essential
• Strong critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
• Fluency in the English language with excellent oral and written communication skills

• Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.
