Job Summary

The Registered Nurse under the direction of the Clinical Director provides nursing services and oversees general health, nutrition, and medical needs for program participants. They also interact with program participants and must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Developmental Disabilities Administration.

Day-to-Day

  • Maintain contact with program participants on, at least, a monthly basis to properly oversee general health and medical stability.
  • Develop a medical care plan as part of IISP for each participant with exceptional medical needs, which will be updated on an annual basis, at minimum.
  • Perform necessary nursing tasks and provide medically necessary care and support to program participants.
  • Provide basic physical examinations as outlined in participants' medical care plan (included in the IISP).
  • Communicate with guardians and other authorized parties about health issues before and after medical appointments.
  • Schedule and attend medical appointments to ensure proper oversight of health needs.
  • Document any health care appointments.
  • Work with others to maintain a record of appointments and ensure that every participant receives an annual physical and dental examination annually (at a minimum).
  • Review all health care providers' recommendations, ensuring the recommendations are followed; communicate and document updates as needed so that participant care is supported at all times.
  • Provide medication oversight; fill new prescriptions and order refills as necessary or as prescribed; works with the pharmacy and health care providers to develop and maintain accurate medication administration records for each program participant, updating as necessary.
  • Oversee the dietary and nutrition needs of the participants.
  • Develop menu plans and train staff on implementation.
  • Provide guidance and training to employees regarding participants' medical needs and medications.
  • Provide training as requested or as necessary to ensure participants receive appropriate medical supports; develop and deliver training that meets participant needs.
  • Informs staff of recommendations from appointments and information pertaining to new medications and/or treatments.
  • Maintain medical documentation as necessary or relevant (includes, but is not limited to) psychoactive medications, informed consents, treatment plans, medication reviews, nurse delegation paperwork, including collaboration with Delegating Nurse to ensure compliance with regulations and statutes.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions. Attend other meetings and seminars.
  • Create and maintain electronic medical record information system records and compiles reports from the database.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Basic clinical and diagnostic skills and the ability to use these skills to develop training and guide others towards using knowledge in a way that supports client needs.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Knowledge of developmental and intellectual disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and other diagnoses with a corresponding behavioral component.
  • Able to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job and monitor/assess the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Advanced skills necessary to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement.
  • Intermediate ability to communicate with people inside and outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.

Job Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or completion of a Diploma program in nursing.
  • Active and valid Registered Nurse license issued by the Washington Department of Health.
  • At least six months experience working as a nurse.
  • A Washington State Drivers license, current vehicle and able to be covered on Alpha Supported Living Services’ automobile insurance plan based upon his/her driving record.
  • Background inquiry clearance from an authorized state agency.

Starting Wage

$42.50 per hour

Wage Scale

$42.50 - $58.00 per hour

Employees working 34 or more hours a week are eligible for PTO accrual.
