About the Role

As an Antepartum Registered Nurse (RN), you will perform patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes. You will care for antepartum maternal patients, both non-critical and critical, as part of an interdisciplinary team. Your voice influences patient care through collaborative relationships and formal opportunities like hospital councils and national nursing initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document patient assessments at admission
  • Develop, revise, and evaluate plans of care, including discharge plans, based on patient responses to treatment
  • Document outcomes of nursing interventions and patient responses
  • Ensure physician orders are noted and correctly transcribed
  • Provide educational materials to patients and families on care and treatments
  • Communicate significant patient and family information to physicians and supervisors
  • Administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy
  • Delegate work appropriately to non-licensed staff in accordance with standards of practice
  • Provide care for OB/GYN, immediate delivered and postpartum maternal patients, as well as transitioned newborns

Requirements

  • 1 year of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience in an acute care setting (preferred)
  • Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Qualifications

  • Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire if Compact)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (required)
  • Registered Nurse, Certified in Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB) (preferred)

St. David’s Surgical Hospital, part of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, is the first Level 4 Epilepsy Center in Central Texas for adults and children. It includes:

  • 24-hour emergency department

  • Pediatric emergency physicians, hospitalists, intensivists, and other specialists trained in pediatric care
