About the role

At SBELIH, our Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case finding, health teaching and counseling. Incumbents provide care supporting and restorative health and well-being, while adhering to a medical regimen.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients.
  • Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning.
  • Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
  • Administer medication.
  • Practice infection control and participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients.
  • Communicates changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
  • Develops and maintains current written plan of care for assigned patients.
  • Sets priorities to meet the patient’s needs.
  • Sets patient goals and priorities with the patient and/or family.
  • Provides document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching.
  • Ensures that patient education and instructions are consistent with that of the physician or designee.
  • Communicates and works effectively with other staff and other departments.
  • Participates in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees to contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession at SBELIH.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse is required.
  • Basic Life Support ("BLS") certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support ("ACLS") certification required.
  • Bachelor's of Science in nursing degree preferred.
  • Nursing specialty credential preferred - Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN).
  • One (1) year of Behavioral Health/ Psychiatric /Medical Surgical experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods, especially during emergencies.
  • Ability to assist with patient transfers, repositioning and physical interventions, if needed.
  • Lifting and/or transferring patients, including those who may be physically aggressive or uncooperative, with the use of appropriate safety techniques and equipment.
  • Handling equipment and supplies needed for emergency care.
  • Reacting quickly to situations involving physical restraint, patient agitation, or aggression.
  • Proving physical support in restraining or de-escalating patients if necessary.
  • Ability to use medical instruments, perform assessments, administer medications, and manage equipment with precision.
  • Providing document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching.
  • Ensuring that patient education and instructions are consistent with that of the physician or designee.
  • Communicating and working effectively with other staff and other departments.
